The first view into the Moon’s permanently shadowed regions

There are regions on the Moon which are covered in permanent darkness.

Permanently shadowed regions (PSRs) are amongst the coldest places in the solar system, with temperatures reaching close to absolute zero. Scientists believe H2O is stored in these ‘cold traps’ - ideal locations for future lunar exploration.

Seeing In The Dark

FDL used AI to amplify the extremely small numbers of photons entering PSRs and removing instrument noise to make these regions visible for exploration for the first time.
